Hel – Goddess of Death. In Scandinavian mythology, she is the Queen of the World of the Dead Helheim, where people who die ingloriously (from hunger, disease or old age) end up.

Fun fact: "Hell" is Old English for "Hell."

Hel is the daughter of the God Loki and the giantess Angrboda. She also has brothers the wolf Fenrir and the snake Jormungandr.

Helheim

Helheim

In Scandinavian mythology, the Goddess Hel is described as a gigantic, half-giantess, half-goddess. One half of her body is alive and looks like a beautiful woman, and the other half is dead and looks like a skeleton. It is also said that the Goddess of Death constantly slouches and looks very stern.

On Ragnarok (the Scandinavian End of the World or Judgment Day) she will lead her entire army from the World of the Dead to Asgard.

According to legend, the World of Helheim is cold and Hel can control cold and ice. She can also turn into a blizzard. But most importantly, she commands and controls the inhabitants of the World of the Dead.

Interesting fact: the modern fairy tale about the Snow Queen describes precisely the Goddess Hel and her Kingdom of the Dead, Helheim.

Colors of Goddess Hel: White and black.

Her symbols: skull, red roses, bones, dried roses, and images of skeletons.

Food and drink offerings: good wine, apples; meat, bread, soup; dishes that your ancestors would have enjoyed; blood; good chocolate, coffee beans, etc.

Hel also loves beautiful music.

You can summon her from a withered tree in the churchyard.

But remember, the Goddess of the World of the Dead never lies and does not like lies and hypocrisy.
