In ancient times, our ancestors used thyme for pagan rituals. They believed in the divine power of this plant. Translated from ancient Greek, “thyme” means “strength of spirit.”
Thyme or Thyme (lat. Thymus serpyllum) - belongs to the family of Lamiaceae, belongs to the number of essential oil plants containing phenolic compounds. It grows throughout Eurasia from Eastern Siberia to the British Isles and from the Mediterranean to the Scandinavian Peninsula. This plant prefers sandy, dry soils of meadows, sunny forest glades, hills, rocks, as well as gravelly and rocky slopes.
Thyme, in magic, is considered a masculine herb that gives strength, vigor, and also imparts strong energy. Magicians in Ancient Egypt used this plant to improve men's health. Also in magic, this plant is used to induce prophetic dreams and with its help drive away bad dreams. Thyme is also used in rituals of expelling “wickedness”: entities, mermaids, mavoks, kikimoras. Used to drive away people from sharing a home. Helps against damage. Thyme or thyme is a less powerful cleansing herb than wormwood.
For traditional medicine, only the above-ground part of this plant is used. Also, thyme leaves and flowers can be brewed as tea, and thyme stems and leaves are used in cooking in various dishes, fresh or dried.
In folk medicine, thyme is used:
- To reduce the risk of developing fungal and viral infections
- To improve the general condition of the body
- To replenish iron deficiency in the body
- To reduce the severity of stress symptoms
- For the treatment of upper respiratory tract diseases (bronchitis, asthma, colds), etc.
Venus is considered an astrological planet, which gives this plant a powerful force aimed at preserving female beauty, youth, passion and attracting the other half.
In magic, thyme is used:
- To create amulets (magic bags)
- To create incense
- To get rid of nightmares
- To calm fussy children
- Sometimes, for love spells
To use herbs and plants for magical purposes, it is important where they grow, as well as the time of collection of the plant itself. Let me remind you that thyme, which grows in Places of Power, is of great value.
The moment of collecting thyme is considered equally important. The herb collected on Trinity Sunday, Ivan Kupala (July 6 to 7), Lita (summer solstice July 20-23), as well as on all pagan or Christian holidays has great power.
Note: Thyme has stronger magical properties if collected early in the morning on the waxing moon!
